Playtest Round I & II
Wasteland » Devlog
ROUND ONE
I had a few people playtest the first version of Wasteland and provided these questions.
THE QUESTIONS
1. Does the world scale feel accurate? Specifically, scaling to the tree in the scene and the walking distance to NPCs and around the map?
2. What kind of feeling do you get from the environment so far? How would you rate the solitude you feel? Would ghostly or human NPCs make you feel more comforted or something else?
3. Is the camera change between player camera/looking at the moon too jarring? Is the moon too big, too small, or perfect?
4. Is the walking speed too fast, too slow, or just right? Any other thoughts about character controls?
5. Would you want to explore the rest of the map once it has more details/are you drawn in to the world? What suggestions would you give to improve this?
6. What was your favorite or least favorite even at this base level?
THE FEEDBACK
Visuals
- The size of the world was accurate and the tree felt accurately scaled. The distances seemed good enough.
- The map was pretty, but still needs more attraction and details. Seems promising for the future.
- "The game did a good job at making me want to explore! Having paths to the NPCs very much gave me a drive to see what was off the path, even at risk of potentially getting lost."
- The map gave eerie or spooky vibes for some, serene vibes for others. Solitude was not a feeling most felt.
- "The environment seems really peaceful, but I just naturally feel exposed
and in danger if I'm alone out in dark woods, so there would need to be more comforting characters or flora for me to feel comforted"
- "The environment seems really peaceful, but I just naturally feel exposed
- There's a lighting glitch on sloped terrain.
- Conflicting feelings about the size of the moon.
Mechanics
- The camera change was too fast and should probably not have a crosshair so the player knows they are not in control in that view. (Note: the camera change was a temporary solution for a different future mechanic.)
- The walking speed was perfect.
- The mouse sensitivity was too high and the jumps felt too weightless/movement was not stiff as most games.
ROUND TWO
Two people tested the new visuals and the additional mechanics.
Visuals
- The sky is lovely.
- The butterfly moves too fast.
- Have the controls shown on screen.
- Still needs more set dressing.
Mechanics
- Add more activities/quests.
- Make the controls more obvious to the player.
